The Kenya Muslim Youth Alliance (KMYA) is a non-governmental non-profit making organization founded in November 2003 to empower young Muslims through constructive engagement and participation in nurturing democratic, healthy, and peaceful and just society for all. KMYA goals are accomplished through capacity building, networking, dialogue, research, health related programs, information sharing and advocacy.
Since inception in 2003, KMYA has piloted and tested a number of projects such as capacity building program for the Muslim youth leaders; development of grassroots leadership structures; founded the New Dawn newspaper ; participated in civic education on democracy and participatory governance; engaged in peace-building and conflict resolution; participated in national level advocacy on various issues of national interest and established a modern national secretariat in Nairobi.
KMYA is aware of the fact that youthful Muslims require specific programs that are tailor made for their special needs. Such programs should facilitate acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable the Muslim youth cope with demands of the changing world without compromising Islamic values.
